At Glengarry Forest Cabins, we are continuously working to make our site at The Old Forestry Depot, Invergarry, accessible to as many people as possible. We want to provide an honest and clear description of our site and facilities. Because our cabins are located off-grid within a regenerating Highland woodland, the natural terrain presents certain physical challenges.

We have prepared this guide to help you make an informed decision about whether a stay with us is suitable for your needs. If you have any specific questions that are not covered here, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Website Accessibility

We want everyone who visits our website to feel welcome and find the booking experience straightforward. To achieve this, we actively aim to make our digital space as accessible and easy to use as possible.

We use clear, contrasting colours for readability, provide descriptive alternative text for our images to assist screen readers, and aim to keep our language simple and factual. We have built the site so that you can navigate the pages using just a keyboard, and you should be able to zoom in significantly on your browser without the text spilling off the screen.

Please note that our online booking system is provided by a third-party platform (Camp Manager), and we occasionally link to external websites for local area information. While we strive for an accessible experience across our site, we do not have direct control over the accessibility of these external platforms. If you encounter any barriers at all while trying to book your cabin or read our content, please let us know so we can assist you directly to secure your booking.

Arrival and Parking

Our site operates on a self-check-in basis. Access to the main car park at the base of the site is controlled by an automatic license plate recognition barrier.

Guests must leave their vehicles in this main car park. There is no vehicle access directly to the woodland cabins.

Am Fasgadh (Amenity Building)

Am Fasgadh is our amenity building, located at the base of the site right next to the car park.

Inside, there is an accessible flushing toilet with grab rails.
Please note: while we have standard hot shower cubicles, there is currently no accessible shower facility available.
The building is kept warm with underfloor heating, and features a shared kitchen and dining area.

The Walk to the Cabins

Glengarry Forest Cabins is a "park and hike" experience.

The Track: From the car park, the cabins are accessed via a wide, unpaved woodland track.
The Incline: The walk is a continuous, steep uphill climb that takes approximately 10 minutes at a steady pace. The ground can be uneven and loose in places.
Luggage: Guests are required to carry their own luggage from the car park up to their cabin. We strongly recommend bringing backpacks rather than heavy wheelie suitcases.
Lighting: As a rural off-grid site, the woodland gets very dark at night. We have placed low-level solar lights along the main path and provide torches in the cabins, but we highly recommend bringing a headtorch for evening walks to and from the amenity building.
Suitability: Because of the steep, uneven nature of the track and the distance from the car park, the cabins are unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or guests who find sustained incline walking difficult.

Inside the Cabins

Access: Each cabin is elevated slightly off the woodland floor and is accessed via a short set of wooden steps leading up to a covered porch.
Layout: The cabins are single-level inside, with an open-plan sitting and sleeping area divided by a slatted timber screen.
Facilities: The composting toilet is located just outside the main living space on the covered porch. It requires guests to step out onto the porch to use it.
Heating: The cabins are heated solely by a wood-burning stove, which guests will need to light and tend to themselves using the wood provided.

Sensory Environment

Our cabins offer a quiet, relaxing retreat from the rush of everyday life. Because we are located within an actively managed community woodland, you may occasionally hear our on-site sawmill operating or daytime forestry work in the distance. Depending on the wind direction, you might also catch a faint hum of traffic from the road at the base of the hill. The trees provide a wonderful natural buffer, and we find these sounds simply blend into the daily life of the forest, but we like to let guests know what to expect.

Assistance Dogs

While we operate a strict no-pets policy to protect our local wildlife, fully trained assistance dogs are legally exempt and are very welcome at Glengarry Forest Cabins. If you are travelling with an assistance dog, please contact us before booking so we can discuss the site layout with you and ensure you have a comfortable stay.

Emergency Evacuation
Because our woodland site is unstaffed, our cabins are spread out across a hillside clearing, and Am Fasgadh sits at the base of the site, guests must be capable of self-evacuation in the event of an emergency.

On-Site & In-Cabin Information: Comprehensive safety directions, emergency contact details, and evacuation instructions are clearly displayed inside every cabin and within Am Fasgadh.
Muster Points: Clear signage is posted across the site and inside our buildings to guide you safely to our designated muster points in the event of an emergency or fire.
Safety Considerations: If you have a physical, visual, or hearing impairment that might affect your ability to safely evacuate or navigate the forest tracks unaided (especially in the dark), please contact our team before booking so we can discuss your safety requirements.
